Referral & Appointments

Do I need a GP referral to see Dr Margie?

Yes. A referral from your GP or healthcare provider is required to book an appointment. Referrals are managed through GYON at the Mater Private Suites in Brisbane.

How long are appointments?

To ensure adequate time to thoroughly address your health care concerns, initial appointments are 60 minutes. Subsequent and follow up appointment duration may vary. 

Can my GP discuss my case with Dr Margie before referring me?

Yes. Referring doctors are welcome to contact the practice if they would like to discuss a patient’s care or referral.

Do I need a referral for ongoing appointments?

In most cases, a referral from your GP is required for your initial consultation and may also be required for ongoing care depending on Medicare requirements.

Preparing for Your Appointment

What should I bring to my appointment?

It can be helpful to bring:

• your GP referral

• any relevant test results or imaging reports

• a list of current medications

• information about previous treatments or procedures

Your GP may include many of these details in your referral.

Will I need to have an examination at my appointment?

This depends on the reason for your visit. Margie will discuss any recommended examination with you and ensure you feel comfortable and informed before proceeding.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a support person if you would find that helpful.

Conditions & Treatment

When should I see a gynaecologist rather than my GP?

Your GP is usually the best first point of contact for most health concerns. They may recommend referral to a gynaecologist if further investigation, specialist care or procedures are required.

Does Dr Margie perform surgery?

Yes. Margie performs certain minimally invasive gynaecological procedures, including laparoscopic surgery for conditions such as ovarian cysts and hysteroscopic surgery for conditions such as uterine polyps and fibroids. Your treatment options will be discussed during your consultation.

Does Dr Margie treat menopause symptoms?

Yes. Margie provides assessment and management for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, including discussion of treatment options and symptom management.

Can I see Dr Margie for pre-pregnancy counselling?

Yes. Margie has a particular interest in pre-pregnancy counselling, especially for women who may have underlying medical conditions or concerns about pregnancy planning.

Does Dr Margie treat endometriosis?

Margie can assess symptoms such as pelvic pain and investigate possible underlying causes. If endometriosis is suspected, she will discuss appropriate investigation and management options.

Consultations take place at the Mater Private Clinic in Brisbane through GYON

Will I need further tests before my appointment?

Your GP may arrange some tests before referring you, which can help guide your consultation. If further investigations are required, Margie will discuss these with you.

Will I receive a report after my appointment?

Yes. Following your consultation, a summary letter is typically sent to your referring GP to ensure continuity of care.

Do you see patients privately or through the public system?

Margie currently works both within the public hospital system and in private gynaecology practice. Private consultations are available through GYON at the Mater Private Clinic.
